what's in your bag?

Bag stories three years on

It was three years ago (I think) that a group of us got together and started writing bag stories. We found that stories about the contents of bags provide fasciniating reading material and there are so many different ways to analyse these accounts to give insight into how people structure their lives and their identities.

I would be equally fascinated to read some more stories three years on. Have any of us moved on or are we still carrying around the same baggage?

A quick look into my bag shows that not much has changed. My PDA still has an important place and has not yet morphed into a Blackberry or any other such fruity gadget. All the usual bits and pieces: pens, purse, keys and rubbish are still there but there is one addition. Earplugs. I travel on the tube to work now and I find the noise increasingly irritating not least the extremely loud volume announcements about keeping your baggage with you at all times. Of course I do -my bag is part of my life! I am really worried that this daily assault on my ear drums will result in hearing loss and prevent me from playing my violin in tune or hearing the high notes. One day I hope to retire and continue this hobby. I've always hated noise but used to be too self-conscious to wear earplugs but now I don't care. I wish I'd had the courage to wear them at loud parties in my student days where I found my ears ringing for days afterwards.

I'll stop now before this turns into a rediculously rambling rant and I hope you all will have more to say about your bags.
